Although NBLC built partnerships with multiple North Bay business leaders in 2006, the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) ballot measure failed to pass by Marin and Sonoma voters by a narrow margin, losing by 1.3%. Currently, NBLC has been leading the charge once again with the SMART campaign, North Bay Transportation Alliance, partnering and organizing support for SMART. NBLC plans to lead the business community into a winning campaign for rail service in November, 2008. Among other efforts, NBLC's PAC raised funds in order to gain insight by conducting a private poll, in order to best position the issue before the voters.
